Alpine Violet Heart

"Alpine" Heart made with vintage sheet music titled "Alpine Violet". The substrate used was 1/4 inch foam core. I finished the edges with scalloped aluminum tape that had alcohol ink applied to it. I printed a vintage image of violets on a transparency sheet and finished it with a blanket stitch. The vintage brooch on the left side is a violet petit point.

The Blackbird

A square format of a blackbird vintage song sheet etc enclosing dried pressed botanicals. I then rubbed on various paints which picked up on the free motion stitching to attach it all together.

Mixed media using watercolor paint on watercolor paper, vintage book text and illustrations, tissue paper and gel medium to keep transparency. This will become a cover for an art journal. Please click on image to see a larger version.

Always Be A Little Kinder - Quote

Created this mixed media page for my quote book. Primed illustration board with Golden's Matte Gel Medium. Used magazine scraps, free hand diamond design, stencilled the bottom with Golden's Molding Paste. Attached a photo of a copy right free image with ribbon.

Botanical Happiness Always Card.

Started with an actual painted paper towel background then added a few pressed dried leaves and flowers. Sprinkled some hole punch scraps at random. Finished off with random machine stitch and some glimmer to add dimension to this card. Definitely one of a kind!

Home sweet home using corrugated cardboard and copper paint etc.

Tried to make this rustic by using copper paint, corrugated paper, vintage lace. Blanket stitched around the picture before attaching with metal hearts that I painted with alcohol ink. Background was stamped with gesso at random then outlined with dark pen. Lacey paper on top was stamped with a texture then rubbed with copper. Thought this would make a nice gift for someone with a new house. It probably doesn't look like it but this took a lot of time. I have since put it in a frame which really set it off. Hope to do more in other colors etc.

Young and innocent on diamond design etc.

Oh I had such fun doing this. I purchased this little photo of the lovely Victorian girl and used it on this canvas board. Did the background with a large stamp. For the frame around her I used lattice ribbon. My only regret is that I didn't scan the background in before adding the image as that would have made a nice background. Welcome to Lavendula Loveliness!

I understand that the word Lavendula is french for lavender. Lavender is one of my secret passionate colors. Many, many years ago it was a bathroom color they called Mauve or Lilac and as decorating trends come and go it lost it's popularity with many but I still loved it. Now it's still not the rage but can be found in "dusty" and powder lavender etc and goes nice with my colors; soft pink - so soft it looks barely blushing white when the sun is shining in and guess what it looks dusty soft lavender in the evening with a soft glow from the Victorian lampshades I hand stitch. Don't get me wrong I don't have a lot of it but I still love it.

Now the Loveliness part of my blog name. Many years ago I heard/read a piece of advice and I followed it to the best I am able and that is to "surround yourself with beautiful things." That is where the Loveliness comes from. These beautiful things I have tried to create myself. No, it does not always cost a lot of money - yes, it takes time. If I'm going to be sitting and looking at it I want it to look lovely / beautiful. Now remember that is in my "eyes" or opinion. I'm sure there will be more like me. I have been following other blogs with related interests and it has been confirmed we are really the same and yet we are different. Shabby Chic, Altered Art, Mixed Media Art, Artist Trading Cards, Collaged Canvas work, Paper Artistry, this is where I'm at in my own creative pursuits.

Now let me tell you about this tray I designed and assembled - of course I use this one for my first blog posting because it ties in with my blog name "Lavendula". Background was painted in swirl brush design before assembling the vintage piece of jewelery, piece of Irish Linen and other pieces of ephemera. It has a solid glass sealed overlay so it can be used on a vanity or as a tea tray. Sold the tray through our local art gallery.

Well I did it ...... got my first posting in and they say it's all easy from here.
