Lavender Sachets

The sachet above was done with cotton and a image transfer of roses. Stamped the "flowers" onto the cotton fabric before stuffing with cotton that has a package of oris root in centre which I added several drops of Lavender Essential Oil to. These are lovely to tuck under the pillow, in a drawer or suitcase etc. Oris Root can be purchased at a health food store and is wonderful in this application as a fixative to hold the lavender fragrance in. I made the package to hold the oris root from coffee filters - it was sturdy and I just sewed them shut. When finished it came out to about 1 inch by 2 inches long.

On this one I used a sheer fabric so the actual lavender buds could be seen. The overlay is from a vintage linen that I cut into 4 so I would be able to use all corners for these 3x3 lavender pillow (sachets). Will post more of these over the winter as I enjoyed doing them all a little different.

Upcycled whimsical martini glass.

Oh this was so enjoyable to do. I was inspired by Anna Corba's Interactive DVD Book labelled "Vintage Paper Crafts with Anna Corba". I used vintage papers from the early 1900's. This would look lovely in sewing room used for buttons or pins, in the office used for paper clips or as she suggested to use for a candy dish. The paper is on the outside which means the inside can easily be cleaned. Will show the others over the course of the next year.

Vintage sheet music bookmark with handmade tassel.

I made this from vintage sheet music that was about 100 years old. Then ran through the cuttlebug to give it some texture before stamping it with bird. Finished it off with a handmade tassel. Stay posted for more bookmarks this winter. CLICK ON PICTURE TO SEE EMBOSSING.

Mini tissue holders for the purse etc.

I was tired of not having a place to keep my tissue packs for the purse etc. So I made this one from Tyvek. Stamped it and used a double ribbon closure so it's easy to put the kleenex in. Will post some of the others I designed at a later date.

Mini heart - alpine violet image transfer.

I did four of these with a basic transfer and embellished each one differently. Will post at a later date the other three. Finished the edge with a daisy trim which has a violet center. The jewelry was given to me to use for my creativity. Printed the violet on a transparency overlay which features a blanket stitch edge. CLICK ON IMAGE TO SEE DETAILS.

Collaged wallhanging using vintage music related papers

This was so much fun to do. Glued these vintage music related papers to form a patchwork on to a wooden substrate which I had drilled the holes to hang. Clear embossed the surface to seal it at the same time. Will make a unique gift for the music lover. CLICK ON IMAGE TO SEE THE DETAIL.

Mini notebooks using my textured stamped papers.

Pauline valse duet music pedestal.

CLICK ON IMAGE SO YOU CAN SEE MORE OF THE DETAIL. This music cover was over 100 years old. It must have been played a lot as the cover was darkened where the pages would turn. To try and camouflage it I did a transparent texture before mounting on a wooden base. I did about 8 of these and finished each one differently. Will post them over the course of the winter. Wouldn't it look lovely sitting on a piano?

Monday, September 20, 2010

Used my own background paper. Printed the get well soon on textured vellum before attaching it with a creamy colored brad. Tucked the blue chiffon ribbon on the left side. If you would like the background please go to my RUSTIC PIXEL BACKGROUNDS blog. Thanks for reading!

Journal featuring little boy on blue n green backgrounds by Sandra

This journal cover has so many layers of which are backgrounds I painted on watercolor and printer paper. Hand and machine stitched the layers on. Sorry I can't give credit for the image as I have forgotten where - all I know is it is copyright free. I scanned this into my pc and did some photo editing as I didn't like the way it came through.

Hand painted envelopes.

Started with a large sheet of white paper and sprayed paint on an old lace tablecloth. I then cut each one out and folded to form an envelope - letter size. Added the scrap pieces and stitched around it. I'm sure Jennifer will love it. This would be great for the smaller card size too!

Botanical Journal Cover.

This is a first in my "Botanical Series" Journals. Sandwiched the dried bleeding heart and leaves then did the free motion machine stitching. Finished it off by adding a punched border and some fibers on the coil binding. Gave it to a friend as a journal. Oh what fun. Stay posted - I am working like crazy making all kinds of these of which I will share in future postings.

Potential card using my background etc.

Do you remember those old plastic curtains - a long time ago stuff. Well I received this piece from an elderly relative destined for the trash. I love the ornate bench. I scanned it in and played with it using Photoshop by adding my background. See my Rustic Pixel Backgrounds blog for the background. Oh what fun with this old stuff!

Gift boxes with acetate window for grad gifts.

  1. Last week I promised to show the picture of the box tops that I decorated to place the grad scrapbooks in. I used Glimmer Mists and a few butterfly etc glimmer screens. On the acetate window I lightly added some alcohol inks then glitter on a glue stamp of the butterfly.
2. On the box above I painted it with watercolors and stamped a few birds etc. The window was stamped and alcohol inks were applied at random. At a later date I will share with you a few other ideas for the windows on these boxes.

Little six by six grad scrapbooks!

  1. This is the cover of Jacinda's book. The heart was cut from acetate with a image from Stampington placed on back.
2. This cover above was done with acrylic gel medium and a stamp. Her favorite flower is the daisy so I tried to stay with that theme for Nikayla's book.

3. Hand stitched around the above page before inserting it. I felt like I was in a coloring book when I did the initial "J" with some H20's. Used sheet music from a early 1900 Etude magazine.
4. & 5. Hand stitched around each oval for grad photo to be inserted.

6. Background stamp with acetate heart and alcohol inks for Letter "J".

7. On the page below I used a coffee filter that I ran through my cuttlebug to make a pocket to add a few loose embellishments.

8. On the final page I added a little mini card with a quote and a personal touch.
Each book was about one inch thick. Made lots of pages to add photos of their Grad and ruled sheets to do journalling on. Next week I will show you the gift boxes I made to put them in! Thanks for reading!

Another version of Life's looking glass music mirror.

The first picture was scanned into my pc in 2 scans; left side then right side. I used Photomerge in Photoshop to bring them together since my scanner bed is only 8 3/4 inches wide. This collage is 10 inches square. So the coloring is a little different from the bottom picture which I took for a closeup of the keyboard I used as a edging. Printed the sheet music on tissue paper applied with Golden gel medium. Texture stenciled a border design and used 2 part crackle. CLICK ON PHOTOS TO SEE THE DETAILS. Last year I did a similar one in a hot pink which I gave away as a grad gift. This one will go to the Art & Craft Show this fall. This took hours and hours - oh maybe I should just keep it!

Lavender lace and hand dyed pillow.

Hand dyed the cotton to make these pillows. They match the lampshade I posted on August 3rd, 2009. Used the leftover lace and cotton on both of these. Oh what fun when I try to customize everything!

Home sweet home using corrugated cardboard and copper paint etc.

Tried to make this rustic by using copper paint, corrugated paper, vintage lace. Blanket stitched around the picture before attaching with metal hearts that I painted with alcohol ink. Background was stamped with gesso at random then outlined with dark pen. Lacey paper on top was stamped with a texture then rubbed with copper. Thought this would make a nice gift for someone with a new house. It probably doesn't look like it but this took a lot of time. I have since put it in a frame which really set it off. Hope to do more in other colors etc.

Another version of young & innocent collaged canvas with vintage lace.

This is another version of this beautiful girl that I named young and innocent. This was done on a canvas that I stamped after adding image. Applied lace paper to give it a soft look. Hand beaded the vintage lace before gluing on. Did another one to hang with this one which I will post at a later date.

Beeswax collage using vintage sheet music.

To see the details please click on the above image so it opens in a new window. I used sheet music from the early 1900's for this. Sorry for the variations in the photos - that is what happens when you take photos at different lighting etc.
